Rights of the Learner
In the areas of race, gender and disability the rights of learners are more developed within Equality legislation, and perhaps more well developed. In European law – which applies in the UK – the rights of employees have been extended to ensure that people are not discriminated against on the grounds of sexual orientation, age, religion or belief.
The following regulations have been implemented within the UK Equality Act (2006):
- The Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2003
- The Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003
- The Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006
It is important that the ethos of the Equality Act is extended to learners in learning situations and that learning facilitators are aware of all areas of equality legislation.
